Minocqua, Lac Du Flambeau and the entire Lakeland area is the ideal location for getting out in nature. With many trail options, hiking spots and favorite biking roads, one only has to come up north to see what we're talking about.
From the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce's website, "The Minocqua area is an outdoor lover’s paradise. With over a million acres of public forest and over 600 miles of trails, there is no excuse not to get out there. You can spend an entire season and never be on the same trail twice. The thousands of gorgeous lakes, rivers and streams help to create the most spectacular scenery imaginable."
Trails
One of our famous biking/hiking trails is called the Bearskin Trail. This trail was once a section of the Northwoods Hiawatha railroad that ran from New Lisbon, WI to Minocqua, WI connecting travelers from the Minneapolis, Chicago and Milwaukee area to the Northwoods. The last train ran on those tracks in 1956.
Years later it was decided to create a granite-packed trail system over the tracks extending 18 miles from the intersection of Highway K and Highway 51 to downtown Minocqua. Now, the Bearskin Trail is enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year, including guests at Birch Trail Resort.
Another great trek is along the forest-lined Amber Lake Road right outside our resort grounds. A beautiful, paved road extending from Highway 70, past our resort and down the road, a total of 3.8 miles one way. Many guests enjoy a morning bike ride to get their blood flowing and set their day off right, breathing the fresh, oxygen-rich air of the Northwoods.
Leaving our resort and heading towards Hwy 70 is a 3.8 mile roundtrip. Heading the other direction averages about 3.6 miles round trip. Both are fantastic rides.
